Project Update

Three short story authors: Higuchi Ichiyo (pre-war), Kono Taeko, Kurahashi Yumiko (both post-war)

Shared themes: 
Women, agency, suffering 
Descriptive, reflective, wonder
Death, illness
Significance in the every day, mundanity of life

Stylistic differences:
Higuchi – more poetic, elements of middle/working class struggle
Kono – more straightforward, witty, raw
Kurahashi – more experimental, elements of social order
